The benefits of pet therapy in rehabilitative and learning environments have become more and more widely recognized.
Pets and People® Visiting Society provides our services to 20 facilities in the Greater Kelowna area including Kelowna General Hospital, senior care homes and long-term care facilities, for both children and adults with special needs.
As a society we provide over 5500 hours of pet therapy services every year at no cost.
Interactive presentations or special pet therapy visits are available to your group or organization, for a small donation to help us cover our costs and continue to provide our continued services.
Our Mission Statement
To assist with the rehabilitation and comfort of confined and hospitalized persons, Alzheimer and cancer patients, those physically challenged and in a rehabilitation centre, as well as mental health patients and those in intermediate and extended care units.
To these ends, we offer interaction with trained, selected pets and their volunteer owners. If called upon by resident therapists, we provide support for their Animal Assisted Therapy Program and other existing therapeutic activities.
Clients or residents can greatly benefit from the enjoyment they receive from the special bond they feel between humans and animals.
