Our Founder passes.

RUTHERFORD, John Passed away suddenly on January 17, 2013 at home. John was an outdoorsman, an avid reader and a dog enthusiast. He was born in Vancouver on November 11, 1933 to Kate and Jock Rutherford and grew up in the area of 28th and Main. As a teenager, he travelled and worked throughout British Columbia and developed a love of the outdoor life. In 1955, he married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Marjorie. They settled in Richmond and together they raised two children. When the children were grown, he pursued his dream of building a log cabin and living the country life. John and Marjorie found this in Atlin, BC, where he read on his many topics of interest, raised dogs and enjoyed the outdoors. Upon moving to Kelowna in 1995, Marjorie’s vision and enthusiasm and John’s love of dogs founded the “Pets and People Visiting Society” of Kelowna which they have worked at for many years. John applied his talents screening dogs for the Society. John is survived by his wife Marjorie, daughter Catherine, son John (Debbie), two granddaughters Christina and Sheena, and two great-grandchildren Camp and Perri. There will be no service by his request. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pets and People Visiting Society 9-3151 Lakeshore Rd Suite #211 Kelowna BC V1W 1S9
