The Pets and People® Visiting Society provides the opportunity for hospital patients and care facility residents to meet with friendly pets and their owners.  These visits provide a unique warmth and companionship not often present in a care facility; allowing patients to chat and reminisce, and to enjoy the simple pleasure of interacting with a pet.

At times, our volunteers and pets may actually assist medical staff with the rehabilitation or therapy of patients.

Pets and People®
volunteers and pets visit regularly at Kelowna General Hospital, the Cancer Lodge, Hospice, and in intermediate and extended care facilities.

Some of our volunteers do general visiting: others participate in programs organized by recreational and occupational therapists.  Visits may be done weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, and usually last about one hour.

We offer training to new volunteers and their pets on How to Conduct a Visit at a Facility. Schedulers make sure that new visiting pairs are properly oriented at the facility they choose to visit. How often volunteers visit is also their choice.
